Can ChatGPT read your store?
Enter your store's address. We read your robots.txt and homepage and show which AI crawlers are allowed in, and how to fix the ones that aren't. Free, no sign-up.
01
What the checker looks at
Three files from your store: robots.txt, your homepage and your sitemap. No AI assistant is asked anything, so the result comes back in seconds.
01 · Answers
AI answer crawlers
OAI-SearchBot and ChatGPT-User for ChatGPT, PerplexityBot and Perplexity-User for Perplexity, Claude-SearchBot and Claude-User for Claude. These fetch your pages when someone asks a question.
02 · Search
Google and Bing
Googlebot and Bingbot. Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode draw on Google's search index, and Microsoft Copilot on Bing's.
03 · Gemini
Google-Extended
Decides whether Gemini apps may use your pages. Blocking it doesn't remove you from Google Search.
04 · Training
Model-training crawlers
GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Applebot-Extended, Meta's crawler and Common Crawl. Shown, but not counted: blocking them is a choice some stores make on purpose.
05 · Index
No noindex, and a sitemap
Whether your homepage tells search engines to stay out, and whether crawlers can find the sitemap that lists your products.
06 · Text
Text in the HTML
Whether your homepage's words arrive with the page itself. Most AI crawlers don't run JavaScript, so text loaded by scripts may never reach them.

What it can't tell you
robots.txt is the rule. Bot protection is a separate gate we can't test from outside.
A firewall or bot protection (Cloudflare, for example) can refuse a crawler even when robots.txt lets it in. Those tools recognise the real crawlers by where they come from, so a test that only pretends to be ChatGPT would give you a wrong answer. We don't do that. If your store runs through your own Cloudflare account, open Security > Events there and look for blocked requests from the crawlers listed above.
Every Shopify store already sits behind Shopify's own protection, which you can't change. Your robots.txt is the part you control, and it's what this checker reads.
A store AI can read is the starting point, not the result. Whether AI recommends your products also depends on your product pages, your reviews and what other sites say about you. Check a product page next, or book a demo to see which of your products AI names when buyers ask what to buy.

Questions
About AI crawlers and robots.txt.
Is the checker free?
Yes. No sign-up and no email. It reads your robots.txt, your homepage and your sitemap, the same public files any crawler reads.
Does it work on stores that aren't on Shopify?
Yes. robots.txt works the same on every platform. On Shopify stores we also test product and collection pages, because we know where they live.
How do I change robots.txt on Shopify?
In your Shopify admin, open Online Store > Themes > Edit code and look for robots.txt.liquid in the templates folder. If there isn't one, your store uses Shopify's default, which lets all of these crawlers in. If you didn't write the file yourself, check with whoever set up your theme before editing it.
Should I block GPTBot and the other training crawlers?
That's your call. They collect pages to train AI models, not to answer shoppers' questions, which is why blocking them doesn't count against you here. The crawlers that matter for being recommended are the answer and search crawlers.
Does letting crawlers in get my products recommended?
No one can promise that, and we don't. Blocking a crawler keeps you out of that assistant's answers. Letting it in makes you eligible; what it recommends depends on your pages, your reviews and the products you compete with.
What do you keep?
The store address you checked and its score, so we know how the tool is used. We don't save your IP address and we never ask for your email.
